EEA Member Spotlight with Vinicius Farias Ribeiro, Head of Expansion at Cartesi

As an EEA member, Cartesi is part of the EEA community of organizations working to advance Ethereum and drive industry adoption. In the Q&A below, the EEA interviewed Head of Expansion Vinicius Farias Ribeiro, about how Cartesi is contributing to the ecosystem to help Ethereum reach its full potential.

Please introduce your company and yourself briefly.

Hi, I am Vinicius Farias Ribeiro, Head of Expansion at Cartesi. I have extensive experience in mainstream business development activities, and I am eager to help Cartesi bridge the gap between blockchain and mainstream.

Today, blockchain is a niche. Only 0.1% of developers have explored blockchain because of its inconveniences. Developers deal with very restrictive environments and cannot code smart contracts with mainstream software. With an operating system like Linux, they could use existing software and tools to create blockchain applications. Cartesi is a Layer 2 solution that integrates Linux and standard programming environments to blockchain—allowing developers to code scalable smart contracts with the rich software tools and components they are used to. Cartesi bridges the gap between mainstream software and blockchain, welcoming millions of developers to the blockchain.

What first brought you to the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance, and why did you decide to become a member?

While preserving its public roots, Ethereum is continuously extending the scope of what developers, businesses, and consortiums can achieve by focusing on criteria like privacy, permissions, and open architecture.

The EEA is bringing enterprises to Ethereum, driving innovation, and empowering the evolution of the web. This ties into what we stand for: developing a versatile Layer 2 Linux infrastructure to overcome the problems of scalability, computation, and infrastructure for blockchain applications.

What are you currently working on with regards to Ethereum? How will end-users benefit from your work?

Cartesi is developing scalability layer-2 solutions that are Ethereum compatible. At this moment we are working on computational power (Descartes) and storage (Noether) solutions for blockchain.

Moreover, all kinds of developers can use our technology to code scalable smart contracts with the rich software tools they’re used to. Without barriers to work with blockchain technology, think of the endless possibilities for people to create solutions for a fairer, more inclusive world!

How will the EEA enhance your organization’s current efforts?

Together with other EEA members, we want to drive the use of Ethereum as an open standard to empower all enterprises. More specifically, Cartesi can help guide the next million developers working for these enterprises to the blockchain.

We invite EEA members to join Cartesi Labs: a continuous program run by the Cartesi Foundation to fund research and development of decentralized systems with Cartesi’s technology stack.

What EEA programs are you most excited about?

We are excited to join and contribute to EEA working and interest groups and participate in EEA’s organized AMAs.
